Hey guys, I'm introducing myself here...I am new to the forum and found it through google. It's perfect, local people into the same engine as me. I'm an enthusiast that plans to do my first engine build this spring. I'm currently deployed to Iraq but won't be here forever, and when I get back, the biggest thing I plan to do is build my car.
Any locals to the Springs or Denver area that would have any resources or parts to sell, or just want to get their hands dirty on a '67 Chevelle, hey...the more the merrier. Like I said, first time builder here.
Anyway see you guys around...

It will be fun, hopefully it won't be too tough. I hear any lsx motor is pretty simple to work on. I'll throw a pic of the car up here for the purposes of eye-candy. Keep in mind that mechanically it should be completely rebuilt within a few months. I'll throw a pic or two on my next post.

Here, my first attempt at posting pics, hope I don't screw this up :P
First pic: Good exterior shot. Body is straight, relatively rust-free, no dings/dents, no safety issues. Good starter project.

Here's the original 283. As you can see, the motor hasn't received the same TLC as the rest of the car...which is fine, as far as I'm concerned. I'm going to yank that thing out as soon as I can build something better, namely an LSX.

Ok, the engine has been purchased and is en route to the machine shop (Stan at Rocky Mountain Machine). It's a 2004 LQ4 out of a Silverado, full longblock. I'm going to have Stan bore it 30 over, and build a stroker short block for me, altogether 408 cubes. I will pick up the block after that and begin piecing together the rest of the motor. I hope to have this project done post-haste, since I don't much feel like dumping money into the aging 283.
Any tips or pointers or advice would be greatly appreciated at this point. Thanks guys.

Rear suicide doors would be perfect for that car.

Well, the transmission (T56 6-speed) is on its way here. I had some issues ordering a salvage LQ4 from a company that took my money and gave me the run-around for a month. If all goes as planned I'll have my money back in a few days, and will order a new 6.0L block from GM directly.
Here's what I plan so far, any input would be appreciated:
6.0L iron block bored .030 over
4" wiseco crank
Wiseco flat-top pistons, tie rods, etc.
ARP studs/bolts
Full hydraulic comp cam setup - Can someone make a recommendation for me?
CTS-V Oil pan
GM Carb style intake, no EFI
Holley 850 carb
F-Body accessories
L92 heads, I'm going to order the bored/honed ones from GM and assemble them myself. Part recommendations?
Thanks dudes.

OK - update. I now have a virgin LS6 block.
Any suggestions on a good, reputable machine shop in the Springs?
Thanks!

Ok guys, I have created a website to track my build, it can be found at:
http://www.ChevelleLSX.com
Ideally it will become a resource for anybody swapping an LS series motor into a classic A-Body. It includes message forums that I've figured out how to set up after a few hours of frustration :) I probably will just post updates on there as opposed to posting updates to a bunch of other message forums, so if you'd like to track progress, I encourage you to check out the site.
